Beard Oil vs. Beard Balm
With a little help from my good friends at Lox Hair Wax Co.
So if you're reading this you're one of a few different types of people.
-You have a beard and use one of these products.
-You have a beard, and saw someone's whose was way better.
-You are just starting to grow a beard.
-You have beard envy (you know who you are)
...I digress, there are a million reasons why you could be reading this currently.
But for myself, I am writing this because I often get asked which products I use in my beard (you'll find out my choice later) and why. And honestly I could only answer for one, but have been trying both the beard oil and beard balm from Lox for the past month. And the results are in....
-Oil-
Well lets start with the basics, like what is beard oil?
Well beard oil is a cosmetic product that is used to keep your beard soft, shiny, and in check! All while keeping your skin underneath your beard moisturized as well. I can't speak for all companies, but Lox hand pours all natural beard oils. Keep the chemical shit off of your panty dropper. I have heard nightmares... Now the oil can be used generously, or just a drop. Its really all just a personal preference. I personally found 6 drops was the sweet spot for me, so that I don't blind myself with the sun glare off of my beard. On this run I used MUNINN, the scent of sweet orange and vanilla is super refreshing in the morning. It also smells just like an orange creamsicle. Ingredients are as follows: Avocado oil, Jojoba oil, Sweet Almond oil, Hazlenut oil, and essential oil blend. It's also scented with Sweet Orange and Vanilla Essential Oils.
The other home run with the oil is you can use this as beard oil, an aftershave or even hair oil.
-Balm-
Beard balm is basically, the exact same thing. But not....
Ingredients for the most part are the same, but add another ingredient, in this instance it is Shea Butter and Mango Butter. This adds more of a "hold" to your beard. This is great for the people looking to style their beards and give it shape. More of the "pomade" for beards in my opinion. This will keep your beard in serious check. On this run I used the Cavalry Cut, with scents of sweet pipe tobacco, and notes of sandalwood. Ingredients: Shea Butter, Mango Butter, Local Beeswax, Jojoba Oil, Vitamin E, and Fragrance Oil Blend.
The other home run with the beard balm is its lasts all day in my opinion.
Now that we've gotten them out of the way, what is my choice?
The beard oil is the winner in my book. And again, this is just a personal preference. My suggestion is you go to LOX and order up some beard oil and some beard balm and try them both. Let me know what you think is the better option and why. There are a TON of beard product companies on the market currently. I stand by LOX because of all the natural ingredients, and because it is a Veteran Owned company. I will always support local and veteran as long as we share the same values.
