HUGH GLASS: American Trapper, Bearded Legend

“As far as I can tell, my place is right here on the smart end of this rifle.” –Hugh Glass

It’s only right to launch the Bearded Heroes Collection: Volume I, with a hero born in the same vicinity where Lox Hair Wax Co. claims its stomping grounds. Hugh Glass has deep roots to Scranton, Pennsylvania. Roots that could indeed link that lustrous beard to some Muninn and Huginn Beard Oil.

American frontiersman, fur trapper, trader, hunter, explorer, survivor. These are just a few titles to describe the famous Hugh Glass. If you’ve ever watched “The Revenant,” you have a clear definition of just how indestructible this American legend really was.

The saga of Hugh Glass is recalled by many different individual accounts. A man once left for dead by his associates. There are accounts of Glass battling a grizzly, skinning a rattlesnake with a sharp rock, surviving off of roots, eggs and buffalo bone marrow, he would nurture himself from near death to a full recovery.

Betrayed by his associates and left for dead, Glass would travel hundreds of miles. Each mile serving as his motivation to survive and enact his revenge against those who left him for dead. Each mile to put Fitzgerald, his deserting comrade, on the not so smart end of the rifle.

The definition of survival is "the state or fact of continuing to live or exist, typically in spite of an accident, ordeal, or difficult circumstances". Growing up as an avid outdoorsman, Glass overcame all odds against him and lived one of the greatest survival stories in all of history. With poems, songs, stories and films depicting his lifestyle, this is one legend that will not be soon forgotten.

So bellowsed, all the kindled soul of Hugh

Became a still white hell of brooding ire,

And through his veins regenerating fire

Ran, driving out the lethargy of pain.

Excerpt from “The Song of Hugh Glass”

A Pennsylvania native, it’s no doubt Glass would have carried some Lox Hair Wax products in his leather trappers bag. A rugged, bearded American only has time to use the best. In the rough terrain and conditions, only Lox would work.

Glass’ Product of Choice: A dab of Wild Hunt, with 3-5 drops of Muninn/Huginn.
